Saturday at the Symphony

The Culinary Institute of America at Copia

Nia Imani Franklin, composer, vocalist, and 2019 Miss America titleholder, is joined by pianist Aldo López-Gavilán for some of her original songs and compositions. The program will also include select original pieces composed by Napa County students who participated in Ms. Franklin’s “Compose Her” music composition workshop presented by the Festival this spring.  Performance is followed by a Q&A session.

The Aspen Times described “Finding Rothko” as a “colorful orchestration, rich in textures and a sense of power similar to the painter’s work,” adding “rewarding to the final section’s glowing climax.”

Cuban pianist Aldo López-Gavilán performs Ravel’s Concerto in G Major in a program filled with beloved tributes to the music of Spain and Cuba. Highlights include Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, deFalla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol
