Cuban saxophonist and chekeré virtuoso Yosvany Terry has had a remarkable jazz journey since his first visit to SJW in 1995. He’s been a sideman with top artists such as Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Eddie Palmieri, Chucho Valdes, Taj Mahal, Branford Marsalis, Paul Simon, and many others. Yosvany has come into his own as a leader, releasing three recordings of his own music. He’s making his mark as an educator as well, teaching here at SJW, and at Harvard University as Senior Lecturer and Director of Jazz Ensembles in the Department of Music. For this show he’s assembled a blazing band to share his new compositions and arrangements.
