With its deep, resonant sound, the viola is known as the orchestra’s inner voice; but its solo magic is equally powerful. Dazzling English violist Timothy Ridout, one of Europe’s foremost young stars, brings us two contrasting works that will leave listeners marveling. Our program begins with a high-spirited early piece by Afro-English composer Coleridge-Taylor, and Mendelssohn’s joyful “Italian” Symphony brings it to a close.
