About

In Songs of a Wayfarer you’ll hear Mahler’s affecting blend of joy and despair, as a young man mourns the loss of his beloved in four songs, performed by English baritone Roderick Williams. Never has heartbreak sounded more haunting. Our Principal Brass Quintet opens the concerts with engaging selections including Bernstein’s Dance Suite. Through Songs of a Wayfarer, Roderick Williams becomes a young man mourning the loss of his beloved, and the Philharmonic performs a new work by the “utterly original” (The New York Times) composer David Hertzberg. Part of Mahler’s New York, two weeks celebrating the great composer and former New York Philharmonic Music Director.
