Join us for a compelling staged reading of "The Care and Keeping of Schizophrenia and Other Demons" by Gloria Oladipo, as part of the New Play Reading Festival 2024. This absurdist, humorist romp delves into the life of Charity, whose plans to move to California with her girlfriend are disrupted when her mother breaks her hip while managing her brother's mental health crisis. Charity returns home, determined to get her brother the support he needs, only to face a surreal mental health system, her mother's denial, and an increasingly impossible-to-manage Sleep Demon. The play explores themes of caregiving, mental health, and family dynamics with a mix of realism and absurdism.

**About the Playwright:**
Gloria Oladipo is a New York-based playwright from Chicago, IL. She writes Black comedies about Black women, focusing on themes of caregiving, mental health, and trauma. Gloria is a 2023-2025 Public Theater’s Emerging Writers Group Fellow and has received numerous accolades, including the American Theatre Critics Association’s Edward Medina Prize for Excellence in Cultural Criticism. Her work has been featured in prominent publications such as the Washington Post, Teen Vogue, and the Guardian.
