1. The WizExperience the magic of "The Wiz" at The Bushnell's William H. Mortensen Hall from March 11-16, 2025. This eye-popping and high-intensity revival, praised by the Chicago Sun Times, marks the return of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical to stages across America in an all-new Broadway tour—the first in 40 years. "The Wiz" offers a groundbreaking twist on "The Wizard of Oz," featuring an iconic score filled with soul, gospel, rock, and '70s funk, alongside a stirring tale of Dorothy's quest to find her place in a contemporary world.
Directed by Schele Williams ("The Notebook," revival of Disney’s "Aida") and choreographed by JaQuel Knight (Beyoncé’s "Single Ladies," "Black Is King"), with additional material by Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin ("The Amber Ruffin Show," "Late Night with Seth Meyers"), this production infuses ballet, jazz, and modern pop into a vibrant journey down the yellow brick road. The cast features Kyle Ramar Freeman as Lion, Nichelle Lewis as Dorothy, Phillip Johnson Richardson as Tinman, and Avery Wilson as Scarecrow.
The show runs for 2 hours and 20 minutes, including an intermission, and promises an unforgettable experience with its dynamic use of haze, smoke, and flashing lights to enhance the atmosphere. Special accessibility performances include an American Sign Language interpreted show on Sunday, March 16 at 6:30pm, and an audio-described performance on Saturday, March 15 at 2:00pm.
