Two major figures from Polish music – the virtuoso violinist Henryk Wieniawski (1835-80) and the wide-ranging, folk-influenced Szymanowski – are drawn on by the duo; the violinist aptly won Second Prize at the International Henryk Wieniawski Competition in Poznań in 2016.

The surging passions of César Franck’s repurposed sonata perfectly complement the lyricism, humour, and prescient unrest that infiltrate the Shostakovich that precedes it. Together with Arvo Pärt’s mesmerising distillation of stillness, the Fauré centenary is affectionately acknowledged twice-over; Dvořák dips into nostalgic reverie; and remembering childhood, too, is Sérgio Assad, whose evocative Menino was originally composed for Yo-Yo Ma and guitar duo.

A pianist with a wide and ever-expanding repertoire, always keen to champion unusual music that he believes in, Mark Bebbington has won a devoted following for both his recordings and his live appearances. Poulenc has been a particular recent passion.
