COMPLINE is sung by the Schola Cantorum on Sunday evenings (October through April) at 9:00 P.M. at Christ Church, 141 East Avenue. Repertoire includes Gregorian Chant, and motets by Byrd, Gibbons, Lassus, Monteverdi, Palestrina, Parsons, Sheppard, Tallis, Tavener, Pärt and other notable composers.
Going for Baroque is a weekly series of mini-recitals at the Memorial Art Gallery. It is offered each Sunday at 1:30 pm and again at 3:00 pm. It offers the opportunity for students from the Eastman School of Music to perform alongside professional musicians on the Italian Baroque organ on the second floor of the museum. The 25-minute mini-recital is included with museum admission.
Tom Stoppard's magnificent modern classic, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, transforms two minor characters in Shakespeare's Hamlet into unlikely heroes of a drama not of their own making, but one in which their fate must be fulfilled. Hilarious and witty, profound and moving, slapstick and philosophical, Stoppard's beloved masterpiece speaks to all our lives as its hapless and hilarious protagonists wrestle with meaning, destiny, and a self-determination that seems to lie forever beyond their control.
