A Symphony for All: Celebrating Fort Worth's Summer Harmony
This summer, Fort Worth becomes a melting pot of musical brilliance, thanks to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra (FWSO). With events ranging from the family-friendly S.E.E.D. Camp at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden to the dynamic Night of Strings series, and the prestigious PianoTexas International Festival at TCU, there is something for everyone. Whether it's basking in classical rhythms or enjoying brass marches at the Concert on the Lawn, this season’s lineup is a testament to the city's vibrant cultural scene.
In partnership with the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, the FWSO will be featured in select camps presenting a Sounds of Nature concert for children ages 4-14.
Nielsen, Golijov, and Dvořák infused their compositions with folk and dance traditions from their homelands. Nielsen’s Little Suite for Strings combines Scandinavian Romanticism with waltz-like rhythms. Argentine composer Golijov’s Last Round honors the tango, with two quartets exchanging phrases as if caught in a passionate dance. FWSO winds join the strings for Dvořák’s Serenade in D minor, which echoes the fiery rhythms of the Bohemian furiant.
PianoTexas International Festival & Academy presents a full calendar of piano events during the month of June that places Fort Worth on the cultural map of the world. Events include piano recitals, masterclasses, and concerto performances with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.
The FWSO’s Concert on the Lawn at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art returns for a second year! Enjoy the bold sounds of brass with Sousa marches like The Stars and Stripes Forever, along with classic Broadway tunes, including “Seventy-Six Trombones” from The Music Man and iconic tunes from South Pacific. Grab your blankets and lawn chairs, pack your snacks, and join us for a night filled with upbeat music and activities, perfect for the whole family.

Visit Romania, Norway, and Panama as guest conductor Ron Spigelman leads the FWSO strings in an evening inspired by folk traditions, dance, and music of the Romantic era. Bartók’s Rumanian Folk Dances and Still’s Danzas de Panamá are rooted in cultural traditions —Romanian fiddle tunes and Panamanian Afro-Latin melodies. Grieg’s Two Norwegian Airs evokes the serenity of Norway’s countryside, including the movement titled “Cow Keeper’s Tune and Peasant Dance.” Schreker’s Intermezzo offers a lush, orchestral contrast with its rich, Romantic string textures.
As the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra wraps up its summer performances, the city buzzes with a newfound appreciation for musical diversity and artistry. From the harmonious sounds of the S.E.E.D. Camp to the eclectic Night of Strings and the iconic PianoTexas International Festival, these events underline the transformative power of music. As families, enthusiasts, and cultural aficionados reflect on this experience-filled month, the FWSO continues to solidify Fort Worth’s place on the cultural map, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating future performances.
