This spring and summer, The Joyce Theater in New York City invites audiences to experience an extraordinary array of dance performances. From the dynamic range of Gibney Company and the athletic prowess of Parsons Dance, to the rhythmic tap of Ayodele Casel and the timeless charm of Ballet Tech Kids Dance, each event offers a unique exploration of movement. As the season unfolds, audiences will witness the genius of Paul Taylor and Pilobolus, the creative vision of Mark Morris, the passionate flamenco of Soledad Barrio, and a special homage to Jerome Robbins. Join us for a celebration of artistic brilliance and cultural diversity in dance.

1. Gibney Company
New York-based Gibney Company showcases its dynamic range with two world premieres by renowned American choreographers Lucinda Childs and Peter Chu, alongside a Company premiere by Roy Assaf, highlighting the eclecticism and depth of its repertory choices. Roy Assaf’s A Couple is an intimate and evocative exploration of the complex and shifting dynamics between two people. The work emerges from the foundation of Figure No. 16, a 60-minute work developed in collaboration with Ariel Freedman and Avshalom Latucha.

2. Parsons Dance
Parsons Dance arrives at The Joyce exhibiting the company's joyous spirit, athletic prowess, and virtuosic moves to music that have delighted audiences for nearly four decades. The eclectic program includes cherished David Parsons works like In The End, set to music by the Dave Matthews Band; Wolfgang, named for its Mozart score and praised by The New York Times for its “muscular partnering and spiraling turns;” and the iconic Caught. Highlighting the program: a Rena Butler world premiere created in collaboration with composer Darryl J. Hoffman, and Robert Battle’s The Hunt, set to a pounding soundtrack by Les Tambours du Bronx, the celebrated French percussion band.

3. Ayodele Casel
This spring, “tap royalty” (The New York Times) Ayodele Casel continues to capture the exuberant and tenacious spirit of tap dance with a world premiere for The Joyce stage. Rooted in expressions of selfhood, culture, and legacy, Casel pushes tap forward while holding reverence for her predecessors and the African American roots of the form. Directed by long-time collaborator Torya Beard, this new work examines the transformative ties between tap dance and the dynamism of 90s Hip-Hop and R&B music.

4. Ballet Tech Kids Dance
They’re back, with their “winning mix of discipline and courage” (The New York Times). This year, Kids Dance continues to span genres with tap, jazz, and ballet in works old and new. In a Kids Dance first, alumnus Edgar Peterson choreographs a premiere performed by Ballet Tech alumni. The adorable 1956 dance battle returns, to the musical stylings of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Classical ballet also makes an appearance with selections from Paquita, staged by Ashley Tuttle. And, as always, there will be a Kids Dance classic: this time, KYDZNY, the quirky urban folk dance, choreographed by Ballet Tech Founder Eliot Feld. With plenty of surprises, they’ll be something for everyone!

6. Pilobolus
Journey into the astonishing universe of Pilobolus’s Other Worlds Collection, traversing the landscape of the human experience with heart-stopping grace, acrobatic power, and breathtaking artistry. The collection features works created with visionary collaborators, the return of one of the most physically astounding pieces in the company’s canon, plus the NYC premiere of Flight, developed with original Pilobolus member and pilot Lee Harris set to music by Paul Sullivan, and Pilobolus’s interpretation of Martha Graham’s Lamentation, created in celebration of GRAHAM100 and the Lamentation Variations Project. Explore the multitudes of the human condition, fusing sensuality, humor, and extraordinary physical prowess in two spellbinding programs by Pilobolus.

8. Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca
"Internationally recognized as one of Spain's most respected troupes” (The Boston Globe), Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca continues to showcase its mastery of flamenco and stretch the boundaries of the art form. Formed in 1993 by Martín Santangelo and his two time Bessie-Award winning wife Soledad Barrio, the company strives to present the authentic form of flamenco to audiences throughout the globe with its world-renowned collection of dancers, singers, and musicians.
