By the tender age of 23, Jess Gillam has already achieved remarkable milestones, including topping the UK Classical Charts, winning a BRIT Award, and making a sensational debut at the BBC Proms. Now, she's set to demonstrate the captivating capabilities of the saxophone in Glazunov’s 1934 concerto, a piece that, much like Gillam herself, has played a pivotal role in elevating the saxophone's status in the classical music realm.
The evening will commence with Santtu-Matias Rouvali conducting Shostakovich's Suite from Moscow, Cheryomushki, a composition by Glazunov’s student that is filled with humor, waltzes, and fiery dances. The concert will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s emotionally charged Symphony No. 6, 'Pathétique', a piece that showcases the composer's mastery and remains a beloved staple in the classical music canon.
