6. Stile Antico
The remarkable Stile Antico marks its twentieth season by honoring the 500th anniversary of one of the greatest masters of Renaissance polyphony, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, whose career was inextricably intertwined with the Papacy and the great churches of Rome for which he composed. The program includes some of the composer’s most beloved and timeless motets, gems by other leading composers active in Rome at that time, and a new work by British composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad, written especially for this occasion.

7. Jessie Montgomery
The music of composer Jessie Montgomery is “turbulent, wildly colorful, and exploding with life” (The Washington Post), and is performed regularly by leading orchestras and ensembles around the globe. Winner of the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Classical Composition and Musical America’s 2023 Composer of the Year, the Juilliard-trained violinist is immersed in a diverse range of projects, including The Everything Band—a collective of artists of varying styles creating music by experimentation, improvisation, and open-ended form. Montgomery performs alongside the ensemble for this Portrait, featuring a newly commissioned work and the joyful and ebullient Strum for string quartet.
