Immerse yourself in the captivating world of ballet with "MAESTRO," a mixed bill performance by the renowned Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. This exquisite presentation, featuring the choreography of Jiří Kylián and Garrett Smith, is set to grace the stage from September 12th to 15th, 2024, at the prestigious Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts. "MAESTRO" is a three-part program that delves into the essence of human existence, drawing inspiration from the masterful compositions of Mozart and Beethoven. The performance kicks off with "Petite Mort," a contemporary dance gem by Jiří Kylián, set to Mozart's enchanting Piano Concertos No. 21 and No. 23. This piece explores themes of desire and seduction through the interplay of foils and hoop skirts, symbolizing the dance of the sexes. Following this, "Sechs Tänze" (Six Dances) continues the journey with a light-hearted yet profound exploration of the late 18th century's societal tumult, all set to Mozart's work from 1789. Kylián's choreography brings a burlesque flair to the stage, adorned with wigs and powdered costumes, creating a performance that is both entertaining and reflective. The program concludes with Garrett Smith's "Complete," a powerful interpretation of Beethoven's iconic Symphony No. 5. Known as the Symphony of Destiny, this piece celebrates individual uniqueness and the strength of self-acceptance, encapsulating the essence of fate and freedom. Performances are scheduled for 8 P.M. on September 12th and 13th, and two shows on September 14th and 15th at 2 P.M. and 8 P.M., offering audiences multiple opportunities to experience this breathtaking ballet.
