Principal Conductor Ari Pelto leads the SP&O in Beethoven’s boisterous and tuneful Symphony No. 7. One of Beethoven’s personal favorites, the symphony captivated listeners from the beginning – audiences demanded a mid-symphony encore during its premiere. World-renowned and Grammy Award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich also joins the orchestra for Brahms’s Violin Concerto. From its gripping opening to its gorgeously drawn melodies, the concerto enthralls and moves with its colorful splendor.

The brilliance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, with its electrifying cadenzas and lyrical brilliance performed by Sacramento native Parker Van Ostrand, is the midpoint of an evening that opens with Jessie Montgomery’s Records from a Vanishing City, inspired by an Angolan lullaby. Completing the program, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite, with its harmonic and rhythmic twists, is pure twentieth-century inventiveness and pure Stravinsky.
