Schubert’s two masterful piano trios, written in the final year of his tragically short life, will be brought to life by a trio of eminent musicians who are well known to Schubert Club audiences. 3. Roderick Williams OBE, baritone & Iain Burnside, piano
British baritone and composer Roderick Williams is known for his rich and sophisticated tone, intelligent interpretations, broad repertoire, and his infectious enthusiasm. Williams’ International Artist Series program on November 13 with the esteemed Scottish pianist Iain Burnside will include the world premiere of a new work by Minnesota-based composer Libby Larsen.

7. Le Consort
Formed in Paris in 2015, Le Consort is an early music ensemble dedicated to the quintessential chamber music genre that reigned supreme in the Baroque era: the trio sonata. Made up of two violins, a cello and a harpsichord, the ensemble’s diverse repertoire includes trio sonatas from Italy, France, Germany and England, which represent the essence of Baroque chamber music., Le Consort’s Music in the Park Series program highlights the works of well-known composers who helped define the genre, such as J.S Bach, Georg Phillipe Telemann and Francesco Geminiani, as well as those whose works remain unknown and often unpublished, such as Giorgio Gentili, Nicola Porpora, and Michel-Pignolet de Montéclair.

8. Pablo Ferrández, cello
The international career of the Spanish cellist phenom Pablo Ferrández has exploded in recent years, with concert tours and festival appearances in the United States, Europe, Russia, and the Middle East. A top prizewinner at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, Ferrández has been hailed as a “new cello genius” (Le Figaro) while the LA Times raved: “Pop-idol magnetism, superb technique and exhilarating musicality reveal a sure star!…Pablo Ferrández has turned into a cello phenomenon and one of the most in-demand instrumentalists of his generation.”

9. Miró Quartet with Steven Banks, saxophone
In this novel collaboration, acclaimed saxophonist Steven Banks joins one of America’s most celebrated string quartets in a program called Musical Mystics. Their Music in the Park Series program, Musical Mystics, will include the Minnesota premiere of Banks’ new work What’s Old is New for saxophone and string quartet, as well as his arrangement of Golijov’s The Dreams and Prayers of Issac the Blind, about the mystical Rabbi of Provence who eight centuries ago dictated a manuscript that foretold the future.
