In 2001, he and his family relocated to Los Angeles, California. While attending Culver City High School, Malik discovered a passion for acting, earning recognition as the best dramatic actor in his class. Malik?s newfound love for acting did not deter him from his first love: boxing; in fact, he boasts an impressive amateur record of 84 wins and 14 losses. This athletic background played a pivotal role in his entry into film. Malik was discovered by fellow actor Michael B. Jordan in a boxing gym, which led to an audition that captured the attention of director Ryan Coogler for the 2015 film "Creed."
