Our must-see season premiere starts with an episode full of seduction, passion, and romance. Composer Richard Strauss’s tone poem brings to life Don Juan, possibly the most famous and unscrupulous lover of Western lore. We’re thrilled to present one of the 2025 Van Cliburn Winners (yet to be announced) in their debut season as a winner of this coveted international award, and we’ll round out the evening with Springfield’s premiere of Valerie Coleman’s Umoja, the Swahili word for “unity,” a joyful and inspiring piece about hope.

5. The Ozark Mountain Daredevils with SSO
Springfield Symphony Orchestra has been playing in Springfield since it was founded in 1934 and has been a musical foundation for the area in its almost 90 year history. The Symphony holds a full season of concerts every year as well as participates in community efforts to grow music education and appreciation with free concerts and outreach programs. The Ozark Mountain Daredevils are a country rock band that formed in 1971. They have always been indefinable in terms of music genres, producing sounds of country-rock and electric bluegrass all on the same record, writing lyrics both whimsical and poetic, singing harmonies, and playing to sold-out crowds across the United States.

It’s lights out and away we go—to the symphony! Grand Prix racing champions Mario Spaghetti-Andretti and Sir Lightning McHamilton team up to introduce families to a night of turbo-charged music selections at the symphony, including music from Pixar’s Cars, Chariots of Fire, and other racing favorites. 10. The Painter
Experience the realm of the spiritual and divine with three visionary composers exploring the deepest questions about life and death. From Hildegard von Bingen, 12th-century German abbess, mystic, and composer, we will hear O Virtus Sapientiae, a work that transcends time with its beauty and deep spirituality. In Symphonie Mathis der Maler, Paul Hindemith explores the life of German Renaissance painter Matthias Grünewald, whose masterpiece Isenheim Altarpiece is considered one of the most poignant and moving depictions of the Crucifixion in religious art. And in Fauré’s Requiem, we hear a composer’s personal reflection on life and death—one that offers peace instead of fear.
