In collaboration with the Quincy Public Schools and the Quincy Community Theater, the Symphony Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky Discovers America at their 54th Young Peoples in-school concerts. Presented with live actors in front of the orchestra, this Classical Kids work follows the famed Russian composer, and Jennie, a young American girl, as Tchaikovsky first visits America for the grand opening of Carnegie Hall. These concerts introduce students to a new world of music through classical masterpieces and symphonic pops. Children love experiencing live music in a setting just for them, but the 45-minute performances are enjoyable for grown-ups too! The 11:45 am performance is free and open to the public.
American Horizons is a salute to American composers, including regional composers Jeremy Beck, James Romig, Randal Faust, and the incomparable Aaron Copland.
Beck’s “Majestic River” was composed for the QSO’s 60th Anniversary celebration in 2007. We continue our commitment to the production of new music with the premiere of our commission by James Romig, Western Illinois University.
St. Louis Symphony Principal Horn Thomas Jöstlein performs Faust’s Concerto for Horn, newly re-scored for horn and orchestra.
The Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association's spring lineup is a testament to the power and versatility of music. Each event offers a unique opportunity for audiences to connect with the arts, whether through the familiar tunes of Broadway or the powerful narratives of classical and American compositions. As these performances unfold, they not only entertain but also enrich the cultural fabric of the Quincy community. So, mark your calendars, join in the celebration, and let the symphonic sounds of Quincy whisk you away.
