1. Rachel Breen Solo Recital
Rachel Breen Solo Recital Rachel Breen, based in Hannover, Germany, will travel to Mendocino to present an eclectic program featuring one of Schumann’s masterpieces, the Fantasy op. 17, as well as an intentionally arranged set of piano etudes by composers from all time periods. These etudes will come together to form a unified narrative—expect to be surprised!

2. Dance Winter Concert
We feature the strings in a distinctive concert combining classical favorites with, diverse and eclectic dances and a moving autobiography. Amy Beach and William Grant Still highlight the range and joy of string composition while Shostakovich’s haunting Chamber Symphony shares a deep and personal story. Familiar favorites by Bach and Grieg dance and delight as familiar features to this special concert.

3. Pianist Paul Schrage and tenor Jon Morrell
Tenor Jon Morrell and pianist Paul Schrage are thrilled to bring Schubert’s seminal art song cycle Winterreise to the Opus series. This cycle is one of the most poignant representations of lost love in the repertoire. Rarely is an audience member unmoved upon finishing the journey of Winterreise. A short virtuoso piano solo will round out this engaging program.

4. Acqua Spring Concert
Our 40th anniversary concludes with a splash! The theme of water unifies favorite classics with orchestral virtuosic masterpieces and a rhythmic American premiere. Handel’s famous “Water Music” and Smetana’s “The Moldau” bring familiar melodies and grand orchestral statements, while Britten’s “Sea Interludes” explores the peace and tempestuous atmosphere of water with compositional genius. Mexican - Japanese flautist Rayó Furuta joins SoR in the American Premiere of Alexis Aranda’s “Acqua.” which explores the water signs of the zodiac with soaring melodies and driving Latin rhythms. It’s a 40th anniversary celebration not to be missed!

5. Gut, Wind and Wire
An instrumental trio formed by founding members of the Baltimore Consort, features Ronn McFarlane on lute (Gut), Mindy Rosenfeld on wooden flutes, fifes, and pipes (Wind), and Mark Cudek on cittern (Wire), bass viol, and percussion. Gut, Wind, and Wire performs popular music of the Renaissance from England, Scotland, Italy, and France, as well as traditional Celtic music and Grammy-nominated original music by Ronn McFarlane.

6. Rubicon Quartet
Rubicon, formed in 2021 by veteran performers Ben Rueb (piano), Jeff Ives (violin), and Joel Cohen (cello), has expanded to become a piano quartet, joining forces with renowned violist Paul Yarborough. The Rubicon Quartet will present a program of beloved works from the genre by Mozart and Faure, as well as a brand-new piano quartet, written by violinist Jeff Ives.
