Exploring the Universe of Art: Ailey II, Musical Journeys, and Stellar Adventures at The Weidner
This season, The Weidner offers an eclectic and vibrant lineup of performances that capture the essence of creativity across various artistic disciplines. From the energetic dances of Ailey II to the imaginative tales of the Gruffalo's Child, the events promise a blend of culture, innovation, and storytelling. Notable presentations include a journey through the solar system with Ms. Frizzle, a musical space odyssey with Marvin the Mouse, and a philharmonic tribute to the cosmos. These events, featuring renowned performers and innovative productions, are set to inspire and captivate audiences of all ages.
For over 50 years, Ailey II – The Next Generation of Dance – has merged the spirit and energy of the country’s finest early-career dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding and emerging choreographers.
When the class gets lost on the way to the planetarium, Ms. Frizzle saves the day by blasting into outer space for an epic interplanetary field trip! But when rivalries both old and new threaten to tear the students apart, our young heroes must learn to pull together or risk getting forever lost in the solar system.
Andrés and Christina, the dynamic duo known as 123 Andrés, are not just any musicians. They're GRAMMY and Latin Grammy award winners, and their performances are a whirlwind of catchy songs, upbeat dances, and interactive learning. Get ready to dance, sing, and learn with them!
Marvin the mouse wants to be popular. Constantly bullied and picked on by the "cool" mice, he is labeled as a loser and a geek. He retreats into his science books and fantasy world to escape the continuous badgering. He longs to have adventures, to be the hero.
Follow the Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous mission in Tall Stories’ enchanting adaptation of the much-loved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. One wild and windy night, the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings about the Big Bad Mouse and tiptoes out into the night. She follows snowy tracks and encounters many woodland creatures, including a debonair snake, an eccentric owl, and a cunning fox. But the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist, does he? And what will the Gruffalo’s Child do when she finds him?
An epic fanfare popularized by the film 2001: A Space Odyssey opens this program inspired by flight, celestial bodies, and the boundlessness of the human spirit. The Weidner Philharmonic takes to the skies to conclude our season with a special appearance by the Youth Symphony at St. Norbert College
Through an impressive array of performances, The Weidner continues to elevate the artistic landscape, offering experiences that engage, entertain, and educate. Each event is thoughtfully curated to showcase diverse talents and themes, from the dynamic choreography of Ailey II to the imaginative storytelling of 'The Gruffalo's Child'.
