Fridays at One: Scottish Opera Emerging Artists

This double bill of ludicrous adultery continues our long-running partnership with Lammermuir Festival.

Director Jacopo Spirei and designer Kenneth MacLeod interpret Ravel’s and Walton’s mini masterpieces for a modern audience, exploring treachery and romance with humour.

This concert staging is conducted by French opera expert Alexandra Cravero. The cast includes former Emerging and Associate Artist and Education Artist-in-Residence Lea Shaw; Chloe Harris and Edward Jowle returning as 2025/26 Emerging Artists, company favourite Jamie MacDougall, and new 2025/26 Emerging Artists Daniel Barrett and Luvo Maranti.

Join us for the world premiere of Dai Fujikura and Harry Ross's The Great Wave: an extravagant story about artist Katsushika Hokusai and his famous woodblock print The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

This groundbreaking opera directed by Satoshi Miyagi explores Hokusai’s creative triumphs and struggles, and his bond with his daughter Ōi. This relationship redefined Japanese painting and printmaking – and changed the global art world and popular iconography forever.

Japanese composer Dai Fujikura and Scottish librettist Harry Ross create a mesmerising musical drama that showcases the series of events that ignites The Great Wave off Kanagawa phenomena, influencing pop art culture today.

Sir Thomas Allen revives his much-loved production of Mozart’s unstoppable masterpiece. Reflecting the insight and experience of a seasoned performer, Allen’s Figaro is full of humour, subtlety, and wit. Simon Higlett’s sumptuous designs provide the backdrop for a comedy of social revolution and subversion that is as relevant today as ever, and this time sung in English.

All wedding days are complicated, but nothing compared to Figaro’s. After discovering that his boss, the Count, plots to seduce his wife, Figaro and Susanna must use their wit to outsmart their employer, whilst making it down the aisle.
