Magic and enchantment. The Jussen brothers at two pianos possess a youthful charm – just like Maurice Ravel, the composer with the pronounced childlike spirit. His program includes a hauntingly beautiful "Fantaisie lyrique" as well as delicate fairy tales about Mother Goose. Ravel, the great Frenchman celebrating his 150th birthday, loved to immerse himself in children's themes – one need only think of "Ma mère l'oye," the timelessly beautiful fairy tale about Mother Goose. Far less known, but no less sparkling with wit, is his opera miniature "L'enfant et les sortilèges" (The Child and the Spells), premiered exactly 100 years ago. In it, a child rebels against its strict mother, wreaks havoc – and suddenly finds itself threatened by all the animals and things it has tormented and destroyed. It sounds comical, but also uncanny, bizarre, and touchingly poetic. An eight-part solo ensemble, a children's choir, and the hr Symphony Orchestra with numerous effect instruments, under the direction of chief conductor Alain Altinoglu, create a soundscape of immense magic, an enchanted world where imagination reigns supreme.
