Antonio Salieri was once the great, admired, Italian court composer in Vienna. He had made a deal with God that Salieri would praise God through music, and that would be rewarded with divine inspiration. But then Salieri and the rest of Vienna and all of Europe meet Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. A young, silly, German fool. A vile and shrill-laughing new composer, who is called “Wolfi” by his fiancée. But he has one thing. He is a God-given genius composer, and no one can refuse him. His music enchants everything and everyone, and it makes Salieri’s compositions sound old-fashioned, stiff, boring – and worst of all: mediocre.
