We open our season with America@250, a vibrant celebration of the many musical traditions that shape the American story. Conductor Yaniv Segal leads a program that travels from the lively folk-inspired sounds of the Appleseed Suite by O’Connor to the powerful jazz symphonic storytelling of Black, Brown, and Beige by Ellington. The orchestra revisits an early American symphonic tradition with Jubilee by Chadwick before launching into the thrilling orchestral spectacle of the Star Wars Suite. Spanning folk traditions, jazz, classical Americana, and cinematic adventure, this exciting program celebrates the creativity and spirit of American music as the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary.

“Our goal in this show was to go through an array of music to introduce young people and also to celebrate the rich musical history that composers of African descent have contributed to. This particular concert will celebrate a broad range of truly classical music but music that they may not have heard or heard about. It’s very accessible. It is designed as a concert to give honor and reflection to the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. in a way that is both reverent and entertaining.” – Dr. Henry Panion III, guest conductor
