What do we gain from retracing our steps? The evolving voice of the violin. The rollicking shores of Western Scotland. The “storm and stress” of late 18th century Germany. Conductor Laureate Jeffrey Kahane conducts Jennifer Koh and LACO in a concert on remembering, retracing, and reimagining.

The American Composers Orchestra premieres music by hundreds of today’s top composers, and no two concerts are alike. In this program, they offer a wide-ranging musical testament to humanity’s bold endeavors. Works include a multimedia rendering of a famed (and ultimately doomed) expedition to the North Pole, written by Nina C. Young; a world premiere by composer and jazz pianist Guillermo Klein; a world premiere by George Lewis, one of the leading exponents of experimental music today; an Augusta Read Thomas composition originally written to precede Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony; and a world premiere by Jack Hughes.

New this year: you choose what we play! <a>Vote</a> for three of the pieces for the Orchestra to play at the concert; that night, clap hardest to vote for the encore you want to hear!<br><br>
There is a limit of six tickets per household per date; additional orders exceeding the limit will be canceled and refunded. <br>
There will be a standby line starting 30 minutes prior to the concert at Window 2 of the David Geffen Hall Box Office.<br>
