This year’s Fourth of July Spectacular commemorates our nation’s 250th and Colorado’s 150th anniversaries with A Star-Spangled 250, led by the one conductor uniquely suited to bring the scale, spirit, and celebration of this moment to life—Carl Topilow.

This free outdoor concert is a family-friendly event filled with music, fun, and patriotic spirit—an NRO tradition that brings the community together for an unforgettable Independence Day experience. Families will enjoy the NRO Instrument Petting Zoo, where kids can explore different instruments and get hands-on musical fun. A Memo from the Maestro: Leonard Bernstein, Dave Brubeck, and The Beatles -- geniuses of 20th-century popular music, who truly bridged the gap between Jazz, Classical, and Pop.  Come celebrate their artistry with Dave's son, trombonist and composer Chris Brubeck -- a great classical/jazz musician in his own right -- as he makes his LSO debut in his own Concerto, along with suave symphonic renderings of his father's greatest hits.  We then feature a rare and classy symphonic tribute to The Beatles by that a legend of American pop music, the elegant Henry Mancini.  We'll wrap things up with - fresh off the controversial Bradley Cooper film Maestro - the LSO's performance of Bernstein's magnificent "Symphonic Dances" and “Mambo” from his immortal "popular opera,” WEST SIDE STORY, which will move and amaze you.

Daniel Bolshoy returns to join forces with Symphony Nova Scotia" class="css-u850">Symphony Nova Scotia" class="css-u850" data-mark-multiple="true">Symphony Nova Scotia for two virtuoso guitar showpieces. An Israeli-Canadian guitarist and educator, he has performed as a soloist with more than 60 orchestras internationally, and returns to Symphony Nova Scotia after his triumphant performance in 2016. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 is a delightful departure from his early works, with its cheerful and energetic mood that is sure to lift your spirits. Its four movements offer a diverse range of melodies and rhythms to keep you engaged and entertained while pulling at your heartstrings.

Michelle Di Russo leads Festival Orchestra Napa in Ansel Adams: America, a sweeping symphonic work composed by the late jazz giant Dave Brubeck and his son Chris Brubeck. A tribute to the beloved American landscape photographer and environmentalist Ansel Adams, this powerful multimedia work integrates over 100 photographs with music. Concluding the program is a performance by the dynamic Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Led by brothers Chris and Dan Brubeck, with Mike DeMicco on guitar and Chuck Lamb on piano, the quartet is celebrated for their music integrating funk, blues, and world music—and for their dedication to melody, rhythm, culture, technique, and the spontaneous spirit of jazz.

Chris and Dan Brubeck have been making music together practically all their lives. Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966— more than a half century ago. Rooted in straight-ahead jazz, they’ve played a variety of styles in a number of different groups, as well as with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. The group’s creativity, technique and improvisation can be heard in their uncompromising music, which reflects their dedication to melody, rhythm, culture and the spontaneous spirit of jazz.

Beethoven’s friends have left ample evidence of his deep love of nature. Hardly a day passed when he didn’t take a long walk through the woods and fields surrounding Vienna, drinking in the sights and sounds of the countryside. His sketchbook for his sixth symphony’s composition contained such musings as “leave the listeners to work out the situations for themselves,” and “all tone-painting will lose its effect in instrumental music if pushed too far.”</p>
<p>Time for Three is a group that defies any traditional genre classification, happily and infectiously. With an uncommon mix of virtuosity and showmanship, the American trio performs music from Bach to ingenious mash-ups of hits by the Beatles, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and more.
