At night, the social scene glitters in the party lights, and right in the middle of it all is Violetta Valéry. She is surrounded by male gazes: some are only interested in her dazzling appearance; others, like Alfredo Germont, love her completely; still others, like Alfredo's father, worry about their own reputation. Just when the young couple has found happiness in unvarnished honesty, he demands a separation. Director Tom Goossens broadens these perspectives, letting the characters grapple with who is allowed to portray whom in what light. A game with reality ensues, a game of disenchantment, recognition, and acknowledgment that doesn't even stop behind the scenes. Throughout, brilliant ensemble voices resonate under the musical direction of Verdi specialist Leo McFall.
