“Gavdnjejuvvon – driven” is a poetic and musical story about the transformative power of love and the courage to go your own way. In the encounter between Sami traditions and new, forbidden feelings, a drama arises that both touches, chafes and shines.

Elle was raised in a reindeer herding family, deeply rooted in her Sami heritage and with a clear sense of responsibility for the traditions. Her future has always seemed predetermined: to carry on reindeer herding, marry within the culture and live close to nature like generations before her. But when her mother wants her to get married rather than get an education, something shakes inside her.

And when she meets the Norwegian girl Lisa – and feelings she never dared to imagine – Elle is thrown into an inner conflict between what she is expected to be and what she longs to become.

Gavdnjejuvvon means “to be scared” or “driven” in Northern Sami – a title that reflects both the personal awakening and the forces that drive Elle towards a new life.
