"My peace is gone" —one of the lines that lingers when one considers the wealth of quotations from Goethe's Faust. A quote that reflects the dilemma of Margarete, called Gretchen. The well-to-do scholar Dr. Heinrich Faust, on the other hand, is in the throes of an existential crisis. Rejuvenated by his alliance with Mephistopheles, he is increasingly driven to world-shaking adventures, and, incidentally, he is also drawn to the  "Eternal Feminine  ." Heinrich is torn and seeks the noise of the world. And Gretchen?

A spectacular founding of a city: Benedikt von Peters’ spatial staging invites the audience to wander through the supposed paradise city of Mahagonny. Here, there is endless pleasure and everything is permitted, as long as you can pay – «but something is missing!». To escape the emptiness, the inhabitants eat and drink themselves to death, fuck and box their way to the grave. Only in Jim Mahoney does the idea of a more humane existence quietly take root.
