ACO’s 2022-23 season comes to a close with a stunning program of Romantic music. Enjoy an illuminating pre-concert talk by Maestro Crawford, followed by music of Robert Schumann, Pablo de Sarasate and Edvard Grieg. Guest Soloists: Rachell Ellen Wong, violin (Sarasate) and Enrico Lagasca, Bass-Baritone (Grieg).

Mozart’s Requiem, the best known of all requiems, is revered for its soaring ‘Lacrimosa’ chorus—making for a perfect return to the stage of the acclaimed ACO Chorus. With this heartfelt work we Remember the many friends, colleagues and loved ones lost during the pandemic. Our dear friend and colleague, ACO Principal Violinist Judson Griffin (1951-2020), passed away, although not of COVID, in May. This concert concludes with Elegy for Strings, composed by ACO Founder and Artistic Director Thomas Crawford in Judson’s honor and dedicated to his memory.

Beethoven Opening Night

The ACO returns to the historic Harlem Parish, the stunning location of its fall ’20 filmed production of The Chaconne Project. Now we assemble the same performers to Revisit that experience in this lively program of Baroque repertoire with a focus on the chaconne—a musical genre that evolved from the bawdiness of 16th-century Spanish street dances to the refinement of Bach’s Chaconne for Solo Violin. In the splendid acoustics of Harlem Parish, we showcase ten vibrant chaconnes that use various combinations of strings, plucked instruments, harpsichord, voice and percussion. Acclaimed Mexican lyric soprano Guadalupe Peraza dazzles with her “mellow, conversational” mezzo (Opera News) and emotional delivery, complemented by dance and hand percussion.
