For Cyrille Aimée, music is a way of life as much as an art form, setting her free to pursue her creative talents wherever the promptings of her diverse heritage take her. She has developed a remarkable multi-award winning, continent-spanning career as a singer, songwriter, lyricist, and educator, while always remaining true to her roots. She grew up in a multilingual household full of music where dancing was an everyday activity, sound tracked by the Afro-Caribbean rhythms of the bachata and merengue from her mother’s native Dominican Republic. The family home was in Samois-sur-Seine, the location of the Django Reinhardt Festival, one of the biggest annual gatherings of gypsy musicians in Europe. The teenage Cyrille would climb out of her bedroom window at night to mingle with the players, igniting a passion for jazz, and inspiring her with the idea of living within a global community of music, united in creativity and spontaneity, without limits or borders.

Born and raised in France, but now living and working in New Orleans, Grammy-nominated vocalist Cyrille Aimée is the new generation of jazz royalty. After winning the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition and the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, Aimée was chosen by Stephen Sondheim to co-star with Bernadette Peters in an Encores Special Presentation tribute to Sondheim at New York’s City Center. Backed by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the concert was hailed by the New York Daily News as “a revelation.”

Winner of the Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition, Cyrille Aimée truly has jazz in her blood. Raised by a French father and Dominican mother in the northern French town of Samois-sur-Seine – the last home of Roma jazz giant Django Reinhardt – Aimée found inspiration in the music of Reinhardt and the freedom of the gypsy lifestyle, singing on street corners during travels across Europe. Winning the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition in 2007 helped finance her self-produced debut album, and finishing as a finalist in the 2012 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition elevated Aimée’s visibility to a global level as a major new figure in jazz. A performer possessed of an infectious joy, lightness of touch and deep feeling for the lyric, Aimée released her breakout 2014 hit on Mack Avenue, It’s a Good Day, mixing Roma jazz inspirations, bossa nova, flamenco and the Great American Songbook.
