Join the Canton Symphony Orchestra for a spectacular celebration of the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," one of America's most beloved musical masterpieces. This special concert will be conducted by CSO Music Director, Matthew Jenkins Jaroszewicz, and will feature the acclaimed pianist Baron Fenwick.

**Artist Spotlight: Baron Fenwick**  
Awarded the silver medal in the 2019 Sendai International Music Competition, Baron Fenwick is a leading pianist of his generation. At 25 years old, he has performed with orchestras worldwide, including the Flint Symphony, the South Shore Symphony, and the Sendai Philharmonic. Fenwick has also performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall and holds degrees from Mannes College of Music.

Also on the program are Jean-Philippe Rameau’s “Airs de Ballet” from his exotic opéra-ballet “Les Indes Galantes” and Haydn’s ever amusing Symphony No. 83, “La Poule.

Join us for an enchanting evening of vocal performance as Audrey Neace, a talented mezzo-soprano and Bachelor of Music student at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music, takes the stage. Under the guidance of Patrice Michaels, Audrey will perform a captivating recital featuring a diverse repertoire that spans the breadth of classical music. The program includes Charles Gounod's "Faites-lui mes aveux" from Faust, selections from Gustav Mahler's Lieder und Gesänge, Gabriel Fauré's Cinq mélodies de Venise, Op. 58, and more, showcasing the depth and versatility of Audrey's vocal talent.

Accompanied by Julia Frodyma, soprano, and Jason Carlson on piano, the evening promises to be a showcase of exceptional musicality and a celebration of the human voice. The recital will also feature works by Vincenzo Bellini, Pauline Viardot, Libby Larsen, Jocelyn Hagen, William Bolcom, and Victor Herbert, offering a rich tapestry of musical expressions.

This special event is scheduled for Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 8:30pm CDT, in the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall. For one performance only, this concert will feature winners of RCO’s reimagined concerto competition which cultivates talent of Nevada youth and highlights the work of Nevada teachers. String students of RCO’s own musicians also perform side-by-side with their mentors in Victor Herbert’s charming Serenade and Saint-Saëns’ youthful Symphony No. 2 closes the season with a flourish. Ottorino Respighi’s compositional legacy rests on two main pillars. One is his brilliant and evocative orchestral tone poems, particularly the three depictions of Rome, past and present. The other is his reimagining of music from earlier eras, of which the best known are the suites of orchestrations of Renaissance pieces called Ancient Airs and Dances. <p>Serenade for Strings will showcase the talented string section of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, marking their first performance together since the pandemic began.

This captivating program, featuring soprano Avery Boettcher, traverses the emotional landscapes of love and fate through music. Beginning with Tchaikovsky’s powerful Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, the evening continues with evocative arias by Gounod, Verdi, Puccini, and others, highlighting Avery’s vocal range and expressiveness. The performance concludes with Prokofiev’s selections from Romeo and Juliet, finishing a night replete with the most impassioned pieces of classical music.

The fourth concert opens with More Seasons by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Michael Abels. Celebrated for his ability to seamlessly blend genres, this work sets the stage for Cello Concerto No. 2 in E minor, Op. 30 by Victor Herbert. The orchestra will be joined by internationally acclaimed cellist Amit Peled to perform this piece from the late Romantic era, bringing forth the soulful richness of the cello in a dialogue with the orchestra. We conclude with Beethoven’s iconic masterpiece that has transcended centuries – Symphony No. 5 in C minor, with its opening four-note motif being one of the most recognizable in the world.
