The world premiere of Giacomo Puccini's final masterpiece took place at La Scala on April 25, 1926. The composer had died in Brussels on November 29, 1924, without being able to complete the score. Arturo Toscanini had asked Franco Alfano to prepare a finale, which remained problematic. On the night of the premiere, Toscanini placed his baton on the last note composed by Puccini, upon Liù's death: a gesture that has remained in the history of La Scala and is also remembered in the production conceived by Davide Livermore for Puccini's centenary. A rich production, combining technological marvels and artisanal expertise, revived under the baton of Nicola Luisotti.

Angelin Preljocaj is a leading figure in French contemporary dance and a loyal supporter of the Maison de la Danse, which has supported his work for many years. Requiem(s) was born from a profoundly personal grief . The loss of his father, mother, and several close relatives in 2023 led the choreographer to explore mourning through the only language that truly belongs to him: the moving body. Nineteen exceptional performers take to the stage with a primal energy and absolute precision. From Bach to System of a Down, from Mozart to Ligeti, the music propels the bodies through a succession of hypnotic tableaux, oscillating between collapse and revolt, tenderness and trance. Drawing on medieval danse macabre as well as the raw energy of contemporary ballet, Preljocaj transforms intimate grief into a collective and cathartic ritual. He does not choreograph death. He choreographs what remains: the memory, the rage to exist, the stubborn beauty of the human gesture.
