Join us for an enchanting evening with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Principal Winds as they present "Quintets DSO Principal Winds" on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 7:00 pm. The program also includes Valerie Coleman's "Umoja" and Marc Mellits' "Apollo," showcasing the exceptional talent and versatility of the DSO Wind Quintet. The ensemble features Hannah Hammel Maser on flute, Alexander Kinmonth on oboe, Ralph Skiano on clarinet, Scott Strong on horn, and Ryan Reynolds on bassoon.

Jeff Anderle is a pioneer in the world of low reeds, helping to popularize the role of the modern clarinet and bass clarinet through his innovative and diverse performances, ensembles, and commissions. He is the bass clarinetist in Splinter Reeds and half of the bass clarinet duo Sqwonk, as well as a member of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. He is a former member of the virtuosic, heavy metal bass clarinet quartet Edmund Welles, as well as REDSHIFT contemporary music ensemble and the Paul Dresher Electro/Acoustic Band. In addition, he makes regular guest appearances with a wide range of music institutions from orchestras to diverse chamber music ensembles. Jeff is a founding co-director of Switchboard Music, and serves on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he teaches clarinet, chamber music and professional development, and is the chair of the woodwind department. He is a Selmer Paris performing artist.

Known for injecting music and fun into the air for unsuspecting passersby by appearing in nontraditional venues such as grocery stores, bars, and other public places, the Sinta Quartet has also performed in formal venues including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Hall, and the Beijing Center for the Performing Arts. With these Music Box performances, they combine the best of both worlds, offering a program of short works packed with energetic brio, running the gamut from the mid-20th century to Irish reels, with stops for minimalism, bluegrass—even a Hungarian barn dance—along the way.

Arcis Saxophone Quartet brings vibrant energy and unexpected color to the Chamber Music Series. The Nightclub Chronicles transforms the concert hall into a space of rhythm, atmosphere, and bold reinterpretation. Beethoven appears here not as a distant figure, but as a source of dance, movement, and playful invention—reimagined through the rich palette of the saxophone. Paired with contemporary works and Latin-inflected rhythms, this program highlights the flexibility and vitality of Beethoven’s music when placed in new sonic contexts. Arcis delivers virtuosity with charisma, offering a concert that expands what chamber music can look and feel like while staying rooted in classical craft.
