A format in which, alongside last year's dance platform winner Giovanni Napoli, our ensemble members can also unleash their creativity in the form of their own pieces. For this edition of NEXT GENERATION, our long-time ensemble member Marieke Monquil and Sara de Greef, who will become a permanent member of Bern Ballet next season, are choreographing.

Wonder Time  tells the story of growing up in dictatorial Romania – of confinement and fear, but also of longing, love, and the dream of freedom. With wit and melancholy, Cătălin Dorian Florescu, in his debut novel, describes everyday life amidst hardship and hope – always against the backdrop of his planned escape from the dictatorship. Years later, Alin lives in Switzerland and reflects on his past. Arriving in a new country becomes the central moment of his memories: freedom means security, but also alienation, language barriers, and life with a migration background. The text reminds us how fragile freedom is – and how profoundly origin and memory shape life in the present.

The Rainbow Bird is a very special bird with magnificent plumage in all the colors of the rainbow. Sadly, it is almost extinct. To save it, a second Rainbow Bird must be found: Kim, Karl, and Feathered friends embark on an imaginative research journey, searching for the Rainbow Bird in the highest treetops, the deepest ocean floor, and the darkest caves.
