The Tucson Cello Congress annually unites 100 cellists of all ages and experience levels from across the southwest. This year’s theme centers around the concept of PLAY!: Finding Joy Through Creating Sound. This event is hosted by the University of Arizona and American String Teacher’s Association and features outstanding guest artists, cello ensemble rehearsals, masterclasses, premieres of new works, and a young artist competition. This year’s Cello Congress will feature the award-winning and incredibly inspiring cellist/educator Scott Krijnen. The event will be held at the University of Arizona School of Music on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Registration will close at 8:00 AM on Friday, January 16, 2026.

In “Mads about orchestra”, we invite Grammy winning Jazz violinist, Mads Tolling for a night of Jazz, Hip-hop, and funk. Senior PACO will also perform Turina’s La Oración del Torero and the 4th movement of Brahms’ Bb Sextet. Come see all five orchestras share on the concert stage as our Holiday Extravaganza delights concert goers with dazzling artistry while we kick off the holiday season by celebrating that together, we’re better.

In our first concert, “Connection,” we start with Dvořák, and see his mastery of “romantic lyricism and bohemian melodies.” His Serenade for Strings captures the joy of his recent marriage which is then paired with Barber’s Adagio. Barber, with one melodic line, captures the depth of human sorrow while also embracing the human quality of hope in all things. And finally, with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, we bridge the transatlantic voices of the early 20th century. “ Connection” tells a story where music heals us, inspires us, and connects us.
