Join the Minnesota Orchestra for an extraordinary evening featuring Principal Bassoonist Fei Xie as he performs Jolivet's Bassoon Concerto, considered one of the most challenging pieces in the bassoon repertoire. This concert also includes selections from Wynton Marsalis’ Blues Symphony, a lyrical and kaleidoscopic history of American music, and Enescu's Symphony No. 1. The event will be conducted by the Grammy Award-winning Cristian Măcelaru.

Having “played her way into the forefront of exciting young conductors,” (Dallas Morning News), Marie Jacquot leads imaginative works by French composers. Ravel interprets dances and fairy tales. Poulenc does the same with fables, adding “the characteristic mélange… that makes [his] voice so unmistakable.” (Gramophone). DSO Principal Trumpet Hunter Eberly adds his effortless sound to a high-wire showpiece by André Jolivet.

An instrument that is usually well hidden in the orchestra – and a couple of composers that history had forgotten: this concert offers new discoveries and hidden gems.

In Jolivet's fantastic bassoon concert, we get to hear Aarhus Symphony Orchestra's solo bassoonist, Maksim Karpinskii, unfold. And there will be plenty of opportunity for that: Jolivet's bassoon concerto is not just one of the most difficult written for the instrument – ​​it is also one of the best wind concertos of the 20th century.

Join us for an enchanting evening of music as Emma Krause takes the stage with her flute and piccolo, showcasing her remarkable talent and dedication to her craft. This student recital, part of her Bachelor of Music program, is set to take place on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 6:00pm CDT in the prestigious Galvin Recital Hall. Emma, a student of John Thorne, Jennifer Gunn, and Alyce Johnson, will be accompanied by Stefan Filip on trumpet and Kay Kim on piano.

The program promises a diverse and captivating selection of works, including Eric Ewazen's "Dance from Ballade, Pastorale, and Dance," Claude Debussy's "Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun" arranged by Nikolai Platonov, Lowell Liebermann's "Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 23," Roland Revell's "Trois pensées (Three Thoughts), Op. 23," André Jolivet's "Chant de Linos," and Eugène Damaré's "La tourterelle, Op. 119."

This event is free and open to the public, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the talents of emerging musicians in a venue renowned for its acoustic excellence and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. As an avid performer, flutist Evan Curatolo strives to not only convey the beauty and prominence of classical music in the world today, but to also emphasize the importance of deepening one's creative and imaginative mindset through various musical lenses. An orchestral musician at heart, Evan finds himself at home in the orchestra’s flute section and is devoted entirely to conveying the message and importance of orchestral repertoire. Evan will join the New World Symphony as a regular substitute for the 2024-25 season.

Embark on a musical journey with Camerata Pacifica as they present a diverse program, showcasing the works of some of the most esteemed composers of all time, including Johann Sebastian Bach and Joseph Haydn. But the excitement doesn't stop there. Prepare to be transported to new heights with the ethereal sounds of contemporary composer Christopher Cerrone's "Liminal Highway" and the dynamic rhythms of Kryštof Mařatka's "Melopa."

Two of the Camerata's musicians will join us this evening. Irina Zahharenkova, mesmerizing the audience with her unparalleled artistry and technical brilliance on the piano and  the incredibly talented flutist, Sébastian Jacot, who will dazzle with his lyrical and expressive playing.

The wind quintet has the challenge, as well as the benefit, of bringing together five distinct instruments to explore multiple blends of timbres. Klughardt's work is a beautiful example of great writing for each of the five, and the addition of piano in Louise Farenc's Sextet provides expanded sonic dimensions and is a true tour de force for the pianist. The program is balanced with smaller combinations featuring double reeds, the regal sound of the horn, and upper winds.

Five composers explore the chamber genre with stunning results, from Saint-Saëns’s spectacular duo for violin and harp, to Ravel’s concerto-like piece for harp, winds, and strings, to Jolivet’s magical, sonorous lamentation. April’s concert programme in the Bethlehem Chapel includes a wide variety of musical works that will attract chamber music lovers and fans of instrumental concerts.  The first part of the concert will feature the Concerto for Bassoon and Chamber Orchestra by the French composer Jean-Michel Jolivet. This will be followed by the Concertino for Clarinet and Chamber Orchestra by the Italian composer Ferruccio Busoni, whose work is characterised by its delicate melodies and sophisticated instrumentation.

Welcome to a concert with Esbjerg Ensemble's own musicians as soloists and with oboe, horn and percussion at the center. 

Look forward to Gerald Finzi's beautiful  Interlude in A minor , played by our oboist David Daniel Dinu, where the interaction with the homogeneous sound of the string quartet emphasizes the lyrical sound of the oboe. And to Jovilet's Sérénade , where the oboe is again at the forefront of the soundscape, but in the interaction with the rest of the ensemble retains its chamber musical expression.
