A long time ago, in Oklahoma City, when I was a sophomore in high school, I joined the Drama Club. By the time I was a senior, I had played Emily in Our Town. In college, I took Shakespeare and Aristotle’s Poetics. I studied the works of Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams. I played a daffy, brassy housemaid named Toinette, a lead character in Moliere’s The Imaginary Invalid. My performance astonished my teachers, my classmates, and even my Mother who famously said, “I didn’t know you had it in you."

Black Out Night is a purposeful creation of an environment in which an audience, self-identifying as Black, can come together and experience a performance in community. The place will be held after the show, providing an opportunity for the audience to talk about their experience and hang out.
