In this program, we encounter voices who chose expansion over limitation, writing music that reaches beyond expectation and invites us into something larger than ourselves. From the radiant energy of Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi—originally composed for the all-female musicians of Venice’s Ospedale della Pietà and now widely performed in SATB settings—to the joyful spirit of Missa Brevis in F Major by Joseph Haydn, we hear music that defies constraint and reflects a vision of faith filled with vitality, light, and possibility.

As the lights dim, imagine that you are stepping into a storybook…With every note, a new world appears—sunlit savannas, snowy kingdoms, enchanted homes, glowing lantern skies, and islands carried on ocean breezes. These are the places where heroes rise, families grow stronger, and even the smallest voice can change the course of a story.

Dare To Dream

This Christmas, the Santa Barbara Master Chorale and Dr. David Lozano Torres present "The Light So Shines" — a theatrical concert experience where drama and music intertwine to tell a story of hope, joy, and divine light. At the heart of the evening is Gerald Finzi’s luminous In Terra Pax, surrounded by inspiring works by Sarah Quartel, Dan Forrest, Mack Wilberg, and Mark Hayes. Beloved carols such as Angels We Have Heard on High, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, and Deck the Hall help guide the unfolding narrative, brought to life by actors, soloists, and chamber orchestra. A stirring and heartwarming holiday experience for the whole family.
