The Victor Hugo Orchestra, the symphony orchestra of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, and the Choir of the Dijon Opera come together for a meditative and powerful concert, featuring masterpieces by Mozart, Poulenc and Fauré.

The testament of a genius, shrouded in a fascinating legend: the circumstances surrounding the composition of Mozart's Requiem have contributed as much to its popularity as its inherent beauty. With it, the requiem mass becomes a passage to eternity.

In 1791, exhausted by his work, Mozart received a mysterious anonymous commission: a requiem—actually intended for Count Walsegg. Ill and soon bedridden, Mozart died on December 5th without having completed the score. It was finished based on his sketches by his pupil Franz Xaver Süßmayr. The diverse repertoire of Les Épopées, an operatic company that freely explores both sacred music and Baroque and Classical opera, perfectly suits this Requiem Mass, to which Mozart lends great expressive fervor. With its music director Stéphane Fuget, the ensemble returns to Dijon after performing Monteverdi's L'Orfeo last season, in collaboration with the Opera Chorus. Their program combines the Requiem with choral works by Beethoven and Schubert, imbued with a contemplative spirituality and open to consolation.

Commissioned from Cavalli in the wake of Louis XIV's marriage to the Spanish Infanta, Ercole amante benefited from the lavish resources of the French court. From this tragedy of absolute power, Cavalli thus created a grandiose entertainment.

The 2026-2027 season offers the opportunity to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the death of Francesco Cavalli (1602-1676), a master of Venetian opera dear to the heart of Leonardo García-Alarcón. Previously an associate artist of the Dijon Opera and recently featured with La Passion selon Saint-Jean , the conductor exalts the sonic richness of Ercole amante by uniting the Dijon Opera Chorus and the Namur Chamber Choir with Cappella Mediterranea. He also recomposes the dance sections, originally by Lully. To express the full flavor of a score teeming with characters and emotions, director and choreographer Raphaëlle Boitel draws on her circus arts background and fuses theatrical languages, conjuring up all the baroque flamboyance of a "Hercules in love"... but also a monstrous one.
