A singing Harpagon: this is Gasparini's The Miser , a lyrical variation on Molière's comedy. A lighter version, moreover, in three acts instead of five, and four characters rather than a dozen – "A plague on avarice and the avaricious!"

A frequent adaptor of Molière, librettist Antonio Salvi here crafts an intermezzo , a lyrical genre initially intended to fill the intermissions of opera seria , and soon to become an independent genre known as opera buffa . Taking the opposite approach to its predecessor, the intermezzo is brief, humorous, and popular. It employs disguise, gives free rein to mime, and freely borrows a popular song. In a production directed by Théophile Gasselin, the cast of this Miser includes Eva Zaïcik (Fiammetta) and Victor Sicard (Pancrazio), both of whom were acclaimed in 2024 in L'Uomo Femina . Le Poème Harmonique and its music director Vincent Dumestre, meanwhile, continue their uninterrupted run in Dijon since 2022 with The Coronation of Poppea , culminating in the Baroque Carnival .
