“ A free and fluid collective ,” Crimi has been exploring a musical, linguistic, and emotional space for seven years, where the searing imprints of exile and memory, the urgency to create, the intensity of living, and the profound nakedness of love constantly recombine. It is driven by the taut writing of Julien Lesuisse (formerly of Mazalda), who has opened up a new expressive field by embracing the Sicilian language inherited from his grandmother and by weaving a close link between the songs and rhythms of Southern Italy and those of Oran raï, the cheikhate , and their ancestors. Sharing and transcending with his partners a rich tapestry of experiences in experimental, improvised, and/or unconventional music, Lesuisse creates a world of confluences and clashes in the heart of the Mediterranean basin, where modality and harmony rub against and sting each other, where the pulses of the Sicilian tambourine and the West Algerian gallal mingle with contemporary groove, where improvisation distorts the framework of songs.
