Violinist

It is thanks to violinist David Brossier, known for his interpretation and composition of Balkan music (notably in Quintet Bumbac), that the Opéra Underground has the privilege of hosting a young voice of Romanian folk music, already recognized in her country for the striking naturalness of her expressiveness. Originally from Oltenia, in southern Romania, Maria Chivu plays the cobza, a traditional lute and almost forgotten accompanying instrument, with roots in the oud and foreshadowing the rhythm of the cimbalom. With a unique blend of vigor and gentleness, and a powerful, timeless connection to the living heart of tradition, she interprets songs imbued with nostalgia, love, and celebration as if they were being created right there, beneath her fingers and in her voice… Maria will be accompanied by David Brossier: for him, who has been exploring Romania for some twenty years, bringing to life this repertoire that has inspired him since his adolescence will take on its full meaning.
