The earth is sweating, the poles are melting—and somewhere, a penguin is sitting on packed suitcases. Thousands of animals from all over the world are competing for a ticket on the luxury liner "Arche Boa." Twelve animal finalists will present their stories in a spectacular show. The audience decides: Which animal will be saved, will receive the last QuarTIER on board, and thus be saved from extinction?

To open the Mozart Festival in the baroque splendor of the Würzburg Residence, the Ensemble Resonanz with Riccardo Minasi will be performing Mozart's Symphony No. 35 "Haffner" as well as "Trame Lunari", a new work by Manfred Trojahn.

Classical Collaborations brings together the central genres of the Viennese classical “school”—concerto, sonata, symphony, and variations—while foregrounding the contributions of women to this fabled musical culture. Featured works include Marianna Martines’s Concerto in G Major for Fortepiano and Orchestra, Mozart’s “Auernhammer” Sonata in F Major (K. 376), Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 48 (“Maria Theresia”), and Josepha Auernhammer’s “Papageno Variations.”

Splendor? Gloria! It couldn't be more festive and magnificent in sound: with concentrated trumpet power, we're getting in the mood for Christmas this year in opulent baroque style. The Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and its trumpeters, together with trumpet superstar Reinhold Friedrich and an ensemble of master students of the sought-after university professor, form an impressive trumpet septet. Big names of composers are on the program, but also those that are mainly familiar to early music fans, such as Heinrich Ignaz, Franz Biber and Johann Samuel Endler. At the podium: the young conductor Valentin Egel, GMD at the Croatian National Theater Rijeka since 2021. A Christmas concert with drums and trumpets, splendor and glory!

Internationally renowned conductor and early music expert Nicholas McGegan leads the Eugene Symphony for the first time in a program of music from the 18th century. You’ll hear two revered works by the incomparable genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, including his “Turkish” Violin Concerto played by rising star Julian Rhee and his joyful “Jupiter” Symphony. We also feature music by classical period Austrian composer Marianna Martines and a largely forgotten gem by Haydn.

Join us at 6:30 pm in the Studio at the Hult Center for our Guild Pre-Concert Talk. ESA Executive Director Scott Freck will moderate a conversation with guest conductor Nicholas McGegan and guest violinist Julian Rhee. Arrive early! This event tends to fill up.

Elegance, History, and a kapuziner. Step into the salons of Vienna, where composers shaped generations of music. The afternoon begins with a hidden gem: Marianna Martines’ Sinfonia in C. A friend of Haydns and an extremely prolific composer in her time, Martines was one of the few women to compose symphonies in 18th-century Vienna—and her music bursts with elegance, vitality, and charm. Next comes a piece woven into CSO’s own history: Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony, the very first symphony performed by the orchestra in 1934. Mysterious, lyrical, and open-ended, it invites reflection—not just on what’s left unsaid, but on where we’ve come from.
