It casts light on the echoes that follow, reminding us that even in the face of ruin, sound endures. Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2, written amid war and loss, spins a ghostly klezmer dance: ironic, grief-stricken, unforgiving. Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, born in a prison camp, reaches beyond suffering toward eternity, where time dissolves into silence and praise. These works are fragments of memory, breath, and belief; resonating through the stillness that time leaves behind.
