Hong Kong Dance Company selects seven representative original dance excerpts epitomising 45 years of solid foundation and innovative tradition, featuring the struggles and resistance of women caught in history from Helen Lai’s Reveries of the Red Chamber, the sprightly spring of Xie Yin’s Tale of Three Cities, and Yang Yuntao’s stylistically diverse output with the Zen tranquillity in Shan Shui, poignant elegance in Everlasting Love, powerful momentum in The Legend of Lanling, the literati pleasures of After Snowfall, as well as the soulful and rhythmic A Dance of Drumming Pulses with co-choreographer Zara Huang.

Sha Tin Town Hall

Eileen Chang is a singular and legendary figure in 20th century modern Chinese literature. With a cool gaze she outlined deep emotions, capturing with exquisite brushstrokes the heart-stopping moments in ordinary lives. Hong Kong — this diverse, fluid city where tradition and modernity overlap, East meets West, and survival intertwines with desire — profoundly shaped the colour palette of her writing. The green hills of the Mid-Levels, the sea at Repulse Bay, the“ding ding”of the trams: Eileen Chang’s Hong Kong is filled with striking colour contrasts, a fusion of splendour and desolation, contradictory yet captivating.
