This remarkable event marks the ensemble's first appearance at the festival in five years, promising an extraordinary showcase of jazz music led by the legendary trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.

The evening will feature a vibrant selection of jazz pieces, announced live from the stage, performed by the all-star orchestra. Under the musical direction of Wynton Marsalis, the ensemble will explore the rich history of jazz, presenting both classic compositions and innovative new works. The lineup includes renowned musicians such as Ryan Kisor, Kenny Rampton, Marcus Printup on trumpets; Vincent Gardner, Chris Crenshaw, Elliot Mason on trombones; and a stellar saxophone section with Sherman Irby, Ted Nash, Victor Goines, Walter Blanding, and Paul Nedzela. The rhythm section boasts Dan Nimmer on piano, Carlos Henriquez on bass, and Obed Calvaire on drums.

This concert is a highlight of the Skaneateles Festival's Saturday evening concerts series, taking place at the scenic Robinson Pavilion at Anyela’s Vineyards. Special guest artist Stix Hooper, a co-founder of The Crusaders alongside Joe Sample, will make a long-awaited homecoming to Houston for this event. The concert will showcase new and existing arrangements of compositions made famous by The Crusaders, as well as songs written by Joe Sample and Stix Hooper, including the debut performance of their final song written together.

Led by trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is made up of 15 top soloists, ensemble players, and arrangers. The first half of the evening explores three essential architects of jazz: Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, and Charles Mingus, with musical direction by trombonist Vincent Gardner. The second half features Usonian Structures, a new suite by saxophonist Andy Farber, one of the finest big band composers and arrangers on today’s stage, with each movement inspired by the iconic designs of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Houston Symphony teams up with Jazz Houston to tell the story of The Nutcracker. You’ll hear Duke Ellington’s toe-tapping take on The Nutcracker Suite, along with music from Tchaikovsky’s beloved original score.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), comprising 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players today, has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center resident orchestra since 1988. These programs, many of which feature Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra members, include the celebrated Jazz for Young People™ family concert series; the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival; the Jazz for Young People™ Curriculum; educational residencies; workshops; and concerts for students and adults worldwide.
