A trans person in Karl XII's Sweden. The nyckelharpa player and trans person Maria Johansdotter lives her life as Magnus Johansson in the early 1700s. Magnus falls in love with Anna Andersdotter and they plan to marry. But the threat of Magnus's biological sex being revealed grows ever stronger, and when the priest learns the truth, he sets a diabolical trap. Maria Johansdotter is a revolutionary story about passion, betrayal, and deadly friendship.
