Japanese-American Miho Hazama is considered one of the world's most exciting voices in big band jazz. With a musical palette that seamlessly weaves together jazz, classical music and contemporary expression, Miho Hazama has made a name for herself as an innovative and groundbreaking force. Since 2019, she has been the chief conductor of the DR Big Band (Danish Radio's Big Band), and since 2020 also guest conductor of the Metropole Orkest, one of Europe's leading orchestras with a strong profile in cross-genre collaborations.

Born in London in 1992, British guitarist Tom Ollendorff is one of the most distinctive young voices on the international jazz scene. A graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, he was awarded the Yamaha Parliamentary Jazz Scholarship in 2015.

Pianist Aaron Parks (BM ’04) is a forward-thinking jazz musician who came to the public’s attention during his time with trumpeter Terence Blanchard. At age 18 he joined Blanchard’s ensemble and subsequently recorded four albums with the veteran trumpeter, including 2003’s Bounce, 2005’s Flow, the soundtrack to the 2006 Spike Lee film Inside Man, and Blanchard’s 2007 Grammy-winning opus A Tale of God’s Will (A Requiem for Katrina).

Jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman kicks off Stanford Live’s 2023-24 season with his new album. Where We Are is a musical journey across the United States of America that also marks Redman’s first-ever album featuring a vocalist—the dynamic young singer Gabrielle Cavassa. The album makes reference to specific geographical locations like Bruce Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia,” Count Basie’s “Going To Chicago,” Rodgers & Hart’s “Manhattan,” John Coltrane’s “Alabama, ”Baltimore” and more.

Since making a name for himself in Redman’s 1994 MoodSwing quartet, Brian Blade has become one of the era’s definitive drummers. They’ve maintained a close working relationship over the years though their collaborations accelerated with the Ornette Coleman/Dewey Redman-inspired quartet Still Dreaming and the reassembled MoodSwing quartet with Brad Mehldau and Christian McBride.

Youth+ Live! is an immersive musical and visual performance. Four groups of musicians from both China and America will be performing original works with traditional Chinese instruments such as Guqin and Pipa along with traditional and modern western instruments such as Sumerian lyre, piano, guitars, drums and electronics in a contemporary blending of unbroken, evolving traditions and globally informed innovation.

A bold and soulful reimagining of the divine master 's musical legacy , it draws on the "pulse" of the great drummers who accompanied him throughout his career and contributed to his musical evolution, from Philly Joe, Jimmy Cobb, to Tony Williams.
