Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sasha Dobson has mastered the art of live song interpretation – her depth of musicianship rivaled only by her wry wit and stylish expression. One third of the award-winning vocal ensemble Puss N Boots, which features Norah Jones and Catherine Popper, Dobson performs internationally, appearing at diverse venues in front of intergenerational audiences. To Dizzy’s Club, she brings a swinging quartet: Peter Bernstein, Dayna Stephens, Neal Miner, and Jerome Jennings. Expect an evening of original material, standard tunes, and plenty of fun for listeners of all ages.

Over the years the Disney songbook has attracted the attention of some extraordinary jazz artists, including Sun Ra, Dave Brubeck and Louis Armstrong. Marking the centennial of Walt Disney launching his eponymous animation studio, “When You Wish Upon a Star” infuses the Disney canon with a fresh jolt of jazz energy.

Performed by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem’s newly created house quintet led by pianist Sean Mason, the show features two vocalists with deep Bay Area ties. Kim Nalley is a San Francisco institution and longtime SFJAZZ favorite who can scat with the dexterity of a bebop horn player, belt the blues with downhome authority, and caress a ballad with imploring tenderness.
